What is a Dodgy Movie?
So, you've found this website, and you are asking yourself "What is a dodgy movie?" Well, the answer to that is pretty simple. Just about any movie is dodgy when viewed in the right manner, but the term was first used to describe action-comedy films like Ghostbusters and Evolution. These are the predominant types of movies that you will see here. However, the reviews on this site will not be restricted to any specific genre as it is possible to find dodgy scenes in any movie.
There are some surefire giveaways as to whether a movie is going to be dodgy or not. If it is a Jerry Bruckheimer Production or is directed by Ivan Reitman, that would be your first clue. If the movie stars Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery then you know you're in for a real festival of dodginess with things blowing up and great lines.
Just dive right in and get reading, and hopefully, you'll see a new level to all those classics.
How the ratings work
All the reviews on this site follow the same basic formula. First, I'll give a brief overview of the movie. Next, I'll give the movie a "Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man" rating out of 5 based on just how dodgy it is. Next, there will be a rating based on how rewatchable the movie is, also out of 5. Finally, I will supply my favourite quote from the movie. In the case of a tie, I'll give two quotes.
Navigating this site
If you are looking for the latest movie review, there will be a link in the right-hand sidebar. If you are looking for a specific movie, try the Alphabetical Index. If you can't find it there, feel free to drop me a suggestion for the next movie to be reviewed from the suggestions page. If you are looking for the dodgiest movie you can find, check the Dodgy Index and if you are looking to find a movie that you can watch over and over again, check the Rewatchable Index.
Why review dodgy movies
Having grown up in the eighties watching movies like "The Goonies", "Ghostbusters" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", had a lot of influence on my choice of viewing. Add to this the fact that my favourite movie is Spaceballs, and you'll get a good picture of why reviewing dodgy movies is the only way for me to go. Over the years, prolonged exposure to a variety of bad films has allowed me to build up quite a tolerance and an ability to find amusement in the worst movies. The only exception I've found to date is "Aeon Flux" And my advice on that one is Just Don't Do it.
