Ocean's 13
It's odd writing a review for a sequel without writing one for either of the preceding two movies, but we'll give it a go. The plot in Ocean's Thirteen is very different from the two previous movies. In 11, they steal money from casino's to get even, in 12 they have to steal a priceless objet d'art to make up for stealing the money in 11 and in 13 they are stealing money from a casino to get even. Hmm, maybe the writers should have tried stealing a new plot from somewhere, but I don't think that even that would have saved this film.
There was nothing memorable about this film, so much so that I am struggling to find anything more to say about it, so lets get right into the important scoring bit.
Dodginess
For me, the dodgiest moment of the film came when the producers sat together and went "Hey, Ocean's 12 was such a success let's make another one, but what can they do. I know, we'll have them rob a casino to get even for something." But I suppose that that doesn't really count seeing as how it doesn't actually occur in the film. So, the dodgiest moment between the opening sequence and closing credits has got to be when they get the second channel tunnel digging machine. Obtaining the first one was a little dodgy, but then having to bring in the second one, merely to get Terry Benedict involved was just bad. Even with this the movie still only gets a 2 out of 5 on the staypuft marshmallow man scale.
Rewatchability Rating
As far as rewatching this film goes, I wouldn't. I don't think I could honestly force myself to sit down and spend another 2 hours of my life watching this film. In fact, I would be hard pressed to recommend that anyone watches it for the first time. This film gets a 1 on the rewatchability scale, only because the AntiNike is reserved for those truly heinous acts of film making like Aeon Flux or Catwoman.
Most Memorable Quote
As I said before there was nothing memorable in the movie. Even the most boring film generally has one quotation that makes a mark. This one didn't. Even after reading the "memorable quotes" on IMDB I still couldn't pick one.
Final Thoughts
Ocean's Eleven was worth watching, maybe because it was a remake and originality was not required. Ocean's Twelve had one or two redeeming features. Ocean's Thirteen has none. Not a single thing that would force me to recommend it. If you feel that you must watch it because of the bad review, I have four words for you to remember during the closing credits. "I told you so!"
