The Incredibles

I’m always excited when the release date for a Pixar studios film approaches as they have yet to disappoint me. The Incredibles is there best outing yet. The film takes a look at what would happen if the superheroes were forced into hiding. And while this film doesn’t necessarily take the same view as me (i.e. the supervillains would become unstoppable) it does try to answer some of those questions.

I particularly like the idea of the superstrong Mr Incredible being forced into submission by a petty, smallminded boss. We’ve all had to deal with those and while throwing them through a number of walls would make us feel better, we don’t have the power. The introduction of normal family arguments such as sibling rivalry and “discussions” about directions are all relatable and give the film that extra something that most superhero cartoons lack.

Dodginess

As far as cartoons go, this one isn’t all that dodgy, but there are moments that will stick with you. Jack Jack finally exhibiting his powers and escaping from Syndrome, as well as the initial fight between Mr Incredible and the Robot. But the best sequence also as a nice bit of foreshadowing, the reasons Edna gives for not allowing Mr Incredible a cape. Watching Superheroes foiled by their outfits is amusing. This one gets a three on the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man on the strength of Edna’s appearances.

Rewatchability Rating

This rates a 4 on the rewatchability index. I can, and have watched it repeatedly. however, I find that the more often I watch this one, the longer I wait before watching it again. It’s still a great film and definitely worth watching.

Most Memorable Quote

The film has a number of dialogue sequences that are great, which makes it kind of hard to pick a single quote. “They keep coming up with new ways to celebrate mediocrity.” and “They’re penetrating the beaurocracy.” Are probably two of the best single lines in the film, however the sequence where Lucius is looking for his super suit ends with this great statement. “We’re talking about the greater good.” “I’m your wife, I’m the greatest good you’re ever gonna get.” I’m sure most of us can relate.

Final Thoughts

The Incredibles is yet another fantastic film from Pixar. Watch it if you haven’t and if you have, watch it again. You may not find something new to appreciate, but appreciating the old stuff can be just as good.
